I once again was blessed to make a cake for my friend and his precious wife! They were married two weeks ago in Savannah and this past weekend we celebrated their marriage with a beautiful outdoor reception. Typically, February still has pretty cold temperatures, but the day of the reception turned out to be the warmest day we have had all year. The warmth of the sun was rejuvenating and the skies were gorgeously blue with no cloud in sight. The reception was held in a white tent in a grassy field at his parents farm. After dinner the new Mr and Mrs cut their cake and they loved it. When the sun had set we walked outside the tent to have a bonfire. We all enjoyed talking around the fire and roasting marshmallows.
The cake was chocolate in the bottom and top layer and the middle layer was vanilla cake. The cake was filled with our light and fluffy almond buttercream and covered in our homemade marshmallow fondant. I modified both the icing and fondant recipes to make them less sweet so that the cake would contain the most dominate sweetness flavor. I have to say, it was by far, the best tasting cake, which I think was because of the slight adjustments in the recipes. Crazy how tiny adjustments can make recipes so much better.
