Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake

This precious Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake was made for my daughter's 2nd birthday. This cake was layered in yellow and chocolate cake. The hand, slide, foot were sculpted out of rice krispie treats, then covered in buttercream and fondant. The trees were balls of rice krispie treats dipped in green chocolates and then we quickly took them to the freezer. The heat from the melted chocolate started warming the marshmallows in the krispie treats and they started falling apart. The freezer helped cool everything so that they would stay in one piece.

The rest of the accent pieces were made from fondant. The head of the clubhouse was our only inedible piece, not because of a lack of trying. We made 2 different heads in rice krispie treats but they kept cracking and falling apart, because a combination of the heat from our hands (from sculpting) and then the weight of the head itself. I think our struggle payed off because it turned out the be the best Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake I've ever seen.
